Navigating Your Busy Fall with Grounded Energy

As autumn begins to paint the world around us with new color, we often find ourselves caught in the whirlwind of a busy season. In the midst of this hustle and bustle, it’s crucial to remember the significance of staying grounded, allowing room for recovery, and taking time for yourself.

Life Coaching to Stay Grounded

Grounding practices, such as mindfulness, meditation, and connecting with nature, can serve as steady anchors that keep us rooted. In Life Coaching, I help clients find ways to stay grounded that feel authentic to them and that fit with their lifestyle and schedule. We often find that accountability and reminders around reducing stress help move them closer to their goals. Some examples of how to stay grounded:

  • Take a few minutes each day to close your eyes and center yourself
  • Connect with the earth beneath your bare feet, reminding yourself of your place in the grand scheme of life
  • Breath practices such as “box breathing” (see below for a how-to video)
  • Meditation
  • Prayer

Life Coaching for Flow

Wouldn’t it be funny if the trees were sad in the fall because they had to let go of their leaves? Nothing works that way in nature. What is, simply is. No judgment, just acceptance. The hillside is peaceful whether covered with flowers or snow.

We can learn from nature’s rhythm and embrace the concept of flow, often referred to as being “in the zone.” It involves immersing ourselves in an activity that captivates our attention and aligns with our skills. When we find ourselves “flowing,” it’s said to be the optimal state of human flourishing. Time seems to slip away, and our actions become effortless.

Instead of pushing into fall, I encourage my life coaching clients to surrender to a pace that makes sense, in both work and play.

Allow for Recovery

Growth occurs during periods of recovery. Even though we are in a season of abundant harvest, the days are growing shorter, preparing us for the deep rest of winter. With the solar energy of summer subsiding, it feels good to prioritize quality sleep and listen to our body’s signals. Recovery isn’t just about rest—it’s about honoring the body and mind’s need for restoration and nourishment. Science shows that tapping into our senses can calm down the brain areas responsible for the flight-or-fight response, reducing heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tension. This helps to put our minds and bodies at ease.

Try this experiment next time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed: 1) Look around you. 2) Notice three things in each of the following categories:

  • three things I like to touch
  • three things I like to hear
  • three things I like to smell

This activity takes you out of your mind and into your body, giving you a break from mental stress and reminding you how you fit into the wider world.

What are some commitments that you can let go of or delegate? You don’t have to say “yes” to everything. In life coaching, we’ll get crystal clear on your personal values. By learning to discern what truly aligns with these core values and priorities, you will create space for more meaningful and fulfilling experiences.

Taking Time for Yourself

Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s a necessary act of self-preservation. Here are some ways my clients take time for themselves:

  • Carving out time to read a book
  • Making their daily walk outside a non-negotiable
  • Making time for a warm cup of tea
